Raiders Sweep OSU Beaver Team TitlesPublished by
The Southern Oregon men's and women's cross country teams both came away with team titles at today's Oregon State Beaver Classic in Corvallis.
The top-ranked SOU men won the title with 21 points, easily out-distancing NCAA Division I Seattle University (44), the Oregon Running Club (98), the Southern Oregon Running Club (144), Oregon Tech (150) and Northwest (159).
The 11th-ranked SOU women won the title with 41 points. NCAA Division I Portland finished second with 61 points, followed by the Oregon Running Club (87), Seattle (100), Northwest (112) and Western Oregon (131).
Senior David Laney continued his hot streak by winning the individual title with a time of 24:12 - a personal best for an 8k race.
Zach Elliott finished third in 24:30, Ryan Sorenson finished fourth in 24:50, Ryan Ghelfi finished fifth in 24:51, Dennis McCaffrey finished eighth in 24:54 and James Johnstone finished ninth in 24:57.
"To have six guys under 25 minutes in an 8k race is very impressive," SOU head coach Brent Ericksen said.
Anya Martinez was the top finisher for the SOU women, finishing fourth in 21:56. The finish marks the first time that Martinez has been SOU's top finisher.
Seena Frantz finished fifth in 21:57, followed by Laurie Stoutenburgh (seventh, 22:04), Tara Krempley (12th, 22:17) and Summer Cano (13th, 22:21).
The Raiders are now off until Nov. 6 when they take part in the Cascade Conference Championships in Klamath Falls.
"The guys are really coming together on the back in," Ericksen said. "The girls continue to run better and that's exciting to see."
